The title of this article could easily be promoted as the latest horror flick in today’s newly reopened cinemas. We have the government, scientists, and journalists all vying for the blood of the people who have chosen not to be vaccinated against the Covid 19 virus.
Health secretary, Matt Hancock blamed the recent rise of Covid 19 infections in Bolton on individuals who have not taken the vaccine. (Gabriel Scally: The Guardian: Blaming the unvaccinated for Covid’s spread won’t help stop the virus: Thu 20 May 2021)
The Vaccinated Mob
Popular and outspoken journalist, Piers Morgan tweeted, “Love the idea of covid vaccine passports for everywhere: flights, restaurants, clubs, football, gyms, shops etc. It’s time covid-denying, anti-vaxxer loonies had their bullsh*t bluff called & bar themselves from going anywhere that responsible citizens go” (Neil Clark: RT News: Hateful hypocrisy: In hate crime-obsessed Britain, vilifying Covid vaccine ‘refuseniks’ comes with establishment approval: 21 May, 2021). In Clark’s article one journalist calls the unvaccinated to publicly declare themselves unclean, and another calls for the unvaccinated to be refused NHS service if they get sick in relation to Covid 19.
In the USA, the anti unvaccinated hysteria has taken the rhetoric up a notch. Opinion Columnist, Michael J. Stern says, “It’s time to start shunning the ‘vaccine hesitant.’ They’re blocking COVID herd immunity.” (Michael J. In the Miami Herald, science commentator, Bill Nye suggests that the unvaccinated are responsible for the Covid variants, saying “…it’s not fair to everybody else if you become an incubator for a variant, doggone it” (Katie Camero: Miami Herald: Unvaccinated people may be COVID variant ‘incubators,’ Bill Nye says: ‘It’s not fair’: May 05, 2021)
When I wrote my article, The Government’s Veiled Vaccine Threat, I warned that the rhetoric towards people that have not taken the vaccine could become dangerous, and it appears that my fears have now become reality.
The Illusion of Vaccine Immunity
It is interesting that in a the New York Times report, scientists are advocating wearing masks even after one has been vaccinated as studies are not yet conclusive that being vaccinated prevents a person from passing the virus on to someone else. The only thing that is certain is that the vaccine prevents serious illness, according to the scientists. (Apoorva Mandavilli: New York Times: Here’s Why Vaccinated People Still Need to Wear a Mask: Published Dec. 8, 2020 Updated April 2, 2021) If you can pass on the virus when vaccinated then the hysteria that we are witnessing towards the unvaccinated is unwarranted.
Towards A Conformist Future
So, if you are like me, a long-life horror fan. You should be well aware of the classic movie, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. The 1978 remake, with Donald Sutherland, is where the ending scene shows Sutherland’s character inevitably succumbing to the alien host after avoiding detection for some time. Sutherland outs Nancy, a close confidante and fellow rebel against the alien conspiracy, who is unaware that Sutherland has been taken over, by inhumanely shrieking to alert the other alien hosts to her presence. The point is, Nancy was still human and needed to be converted and the director leaves the audience speculating whether she too became an alien clone or managed to escape the clutches of the alien mob.
I have always felt that certain writers have warned us through books on fiction and movies what the future could be like if we blindly follow the status quo. Whether it’s George Orwell’s 1984 or Aldous Huxley’s A Brave New World, dictatorships in fiction and in real life have arose out of mass passivity and ignorance. Are we all heading towards the fate of Nancy, where the unvaccinated will be publicly hounded and targeted until they conform?
