YouElect presents its first Parliament event hosted by Labour MP for Ealing Central and Acton, Rupa Huq, with representatives from the youth wings of Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party on the panel.

This event will be the first in our Bridging the Diversity Gap series which will focus on highlighting key issues contributing to the underrepresentation of people from BME backgrounds working within the political system.

BME communities make up 14% of the overall population of the UK, yet only 6% of MPs serving in Parliament are from BME backgrounds.

Parliament can only truly represent the will of the British public if people from all corners of British society are actively engaging in political issues. “says YouElect Director Shamiul Joarder. “Our series of events aims to dissect the primary causes for the political diversity gap and present practical solutions to the problem by including young people  as part of this process.” He added.
