U.S. President Barack Obama announced to the American people and the world today that Osama Bin Laden, the alleged mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks was killed by special forces, what is baffling about this revelation is that Israel intelligence, Pakistan intelligence and even reputable American sources such as Dale Watson, the head of the FBI’s counter-terrorism unit, said Bin Laden was dead in 2002. There are many things the media are not telling the public.

When it was announced by the world media today that Osama Bin Laden, the alleged mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, was killed by US Special forces in Pakistan the media portrayed some Americans celebrating on hearing the news while relatives of victims who died in the attacks spoke of their sense of relief.

President Obama said:

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body. For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda’s leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies. The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda. Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort. There’s no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must – and we will – remain vigilant at home and abroad.” (ITN News: President Obama’s speech on bin Laden in full: May 2)

World leaders were quick to respond. British Prime Minister David Cameron, said that Bin Laden’s death will “bring great relief to people across the world.” German leader Angela Merkel referred to the death of Bin Laden as “good news

Bin Laden and the West have not always been enemies, a factor rarely mentioned in the mainstream media.

When Bin Laden and America were allies

It is important that people are aware of why conflicts occur and the root causes to terrorism. Bin Laden was introduced to the world as an Islamic terrorist, the leader of Al Qaeda and the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. He was not introduced to the world as a former ally of America.

When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979, America, the only other world superpower and bitter rival to Soviet power, trained and funded the very terrorists through CIA support along with Pakistan intelligence. Essentially Al Qaeda had fought the Russians for America. At stake was a region with significant oil and gas reserves.

According to Michel Chossudovsky, Professor of Economics at the University of Ottawa and Director of the Centre for Research on Globalisation, (Global Research: The Truth behind 9/11: Who Is Osama Bin Laden?: September 12, 2001):

Since the Cold War era, Washington has consciously supported Osama bin Laden, while at same time placing him on the FBI’s “most wanted list” as the World’s foremost terrorist. While the Mujahideen are busy fighting America’s war in the Balkans and the former Soviet Union, the FBI –operating as a US based Police Force- is waging a domestic war against terrorism, operating in some respects independently of the CIA which has –since the Soviet-Afghan war– supported international terrorism through its covert operations. In a cruel irony, while the Islamic jihad –featured by the Bush Administration as “a threat to America”– is blamed for the terrorist assaults on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, these same Islamic organisations constitute a key instrument of US military-intelligence operations in the Balkans and the former Soviet Union.”

Just like former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Bin Laden had served US interests for decades up until the 9/11 attacks, and once again the Western media failed to address why a former ally had become an enemy. In fact, not many people understand that al qaeda and America were allies which questions the entire premise that America is an innocent party in this conflict.

Bin Laden: Back from the dead?

Many people within the American military and intelligence, Pakistan intelligence and Israeli intelligence will be very surprised at the announcement of Bin Laden’s death as according to these sources, Bin Laden died in 2002.

David Ray Griffin, author of the book, ‘Osama bin Laden: Dead or Alive?’ said that after December 2001 the CIA had stopped intercepting messages between Bin Laden and his followers, an indication maybe that he was no longer alive.

Griffin also said that on December 26, 2001, a Pakistani newspaper reported that Bin Laden had died quoting an Afghan Taliban official who said he had attended the funeral and saw his face.

Another point mentioned by Griffin is that Bin Laden had kidney disease. He added, “He had been treated for it in the American Hospital in Dubai in July 2001, at which time he reportedly ordered two dialysis machines to take home. If you have ever wondered what bin Laden was doing the night before the 9/11 attacks, CBS News reported that he was being given kidney dialysis treatment in a hospital in Pakistan. And in January of 2001, Dr. Sanjay Gupta said – based on a video of bin Laden that had been made in either late November or early December of 2001 – that he appeared to be in the last stages of kidney failure.” (Global Research: David Griffin: Osama Bin Laden: Dead or Alive?: October 9, 2009)

Bin Laden’s closest bodyguards were captured in July 2002 according to CNN, and Bin Laden was not with them, an indication that he was dead says Griffin.

Griffin also mentions America’s $25 million award for information leading to the capture of Bin Laden and how not one person came forward in a country where many people are poor.

If this does not convince you that Bin Laden was most likely dead years ago, Griffin saves the most compelling evidence for last. He said:

we had considerable testimony in 2002, from people in position to know, that bin Laden was dead, or probably so. These people included:

• President Musharraf of Pakistan;

• Dale Watson, the head of the FBI’s counter-terrorism unit;

• Oliver North, who said: “I’m certain that Osama is dead. . . And so are all the other guys I stay in touch with”;

• President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan;

• Sources within Israeli intelligence, who said that any new messages from bin Laden were “probably fabrications”;

• Sources within Pakistani intelligence, who “confirmed the death of . . . Osama Bin Laden” and “attributed the reasons behind Washington’s hiding news on the death of Osama Bin Laden to the desire of the hawks of the American administration to use the issue of al-Qaida and international terrorism to invade Iraq.”

The evidence given by Griffin does not stop at the examples given but even the most detached individual can not help but see the strength of his arguments.

US protects Bin Laden’s life on occasions

It is odd that America’s most wanted man in the world was saved from being killed on occasions by American military commanders and CIA officials. This sensational evidence comes from a retired colonel, the US Senate, and French soldiers. (Global Research: Washington’s Blog: Bin Laden Is Dead … But Why Didn’t We Kill Him 10 Years Ago?: May 2, 2011)

Washington’s Blog mentions how in December 2001, Bin Laden was in sight of the US military in Afghanistan but Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld refused to provide the soldiers to capture him.

It also mentions that French troops claim they could have captured Bin Laden but American commanders stopped them from doing so.

A retired colonel told Fox News that in 2007 the US military had Bin laden on a locked target but failed to pull the trigger, an act he considered criminal.

A US congressman even said that George Bush had let Bin Laden escape to justify the Iraq war.

The relatives of the victims who died on 9/11 may believe that they are getting justice with the alleged death of Bin Laden today, but the sources above contradicts this. Justice for the victims of the 9/11 attacks will never be realised until those responsible for planning wars stand trial for crimes against humanity. The real criminals of the 9/11 attacks are still at large in Washington.
